Well, I have been sadly neglectful in posting anything here within the last month. Things have been busy, but interesting, and I should have posted. Here are some quick updates, starting with just this past week:
1. We found and adopted a dog! I've been seriously considering this pretty much ever since we fenced our yard last fall, but I've been holding out for a puppy that we could really train and raise right. I've been reading books and looking in the paper and on the internet all winter, but had decided we'd have to wait until the end of July after all of our trips. But of course, I was still checking around and happened to see a listing for a registered two year old trained miniature dachshund up for adoption. Well, I just got so excited and inquired about it, and we decided that since he was already trained and ready to go, we could go ahead and get him now.
So we emailed back and forth, met him and his owners at a park, and found out he's a really well trained and fairly well-behaved little guy, and just about as cute as they get. We picked him up on Thursday evening and he growled all the way home so we were pretty alarmed...brought him in the yard and he was doing ok but seeming kind of unhappy still. So we broke out the new squeaky toy that Adam had picked out at PetSmart (where I insisted we go the moment we decided we were for sure taking him)---and he immediately became a different dog. Feisty, happy, playful, smart, the works. He's very energetic, but well-behaved too. He and Adam have really bonded so far, but he seems to be happy and at home here.
2. Adam bought a new car! He's been looking for a while, and researching (just like me, with the dog...) and had one he really liked get sold while he was out of town, but I told him the right one would come along. Sure enough, the evening we met the dog we decided to cruise by the car dealership on our way home and saw a fantastic deal on the exact car he wanted. He got a Volvo S60, willow green, with really low miles and an excellent price. We picked it up yesterday and it's a really nice car. Great for a few road trips coming up!
3. Not so great news--my computer bit the dust. This happened to be about an hour after I first emailed about the dog, so I was pretty upset about it for more than one reason. But we got the dog, and the problem with the comp. is the hard drive is shot. That's expensive and I lost all of my data. Not a huge deal in the grand scheme of things, and I'm not terribly upset, but it is a bummer for sure. I guess we'll try to fix it, and at least my grad. paper was backed up! I'd kind of like to just buy a new one....we'll see. Meanwhile we are quite lucky to have another computer to use!
4. Other news: since it has been a month since I posted, other events included spring break and MAP testing at school. Spring break was mostly me working on stuff around the house, finishing up my paper, etc. Not really too fun or exciting, but a good break for sure. We've had one week of testing and one more to go. That makes school pretty wild, but also pretty close to being over. I've been busy planning our summer trips and I am getting VERY excited about traveling.
We'll that pretty much brings things up to date I guess. I've got to update more often, because things are moving fast around here!
