Renaissance

Ok, I'm crankin' up the old blog again. I deleted all of the old posts because they were....old. I felt self-concious about them. Just time for a fresh start, I guess. I had been thinking about getting started again for a while, and then Aaron inspired me to get off my excuses and get with it. Plus, I need to start writing every day. I can't write a novel yet, nor do I even have the courage to start a short story right now, but I can at least journal. In a very public sort of way! But I know that the first step to writing is to just do it.

It doesn't hurt that it's yet another ice day today. Why am I up at 8:00 on a day off? Well, my dear husband got up at 5:00 in case he had to go to Carthage today for work. He was being so quiet and respectful of my sleepy time, but I was awake anyway so I just got up. So I've been pacing around with him waiting for news about work, doing my daily internet rounds, and watching Today. Don't worry, I'll have my nap later. It will be a good one.

We were also off yesterday, for ice. We got it good this time. It was a freezing rain thunderstorm starting early yesterday a.m., leading to a completely unexpected day off. We've had quite a few this year and I'm starting to get just a bit nervous about that. Not that I don't love a day off... I ALWAYS do! But, with MAP less than 2 mos. away, I would rather have my days in class now...my little third graders need lots of practice. Lots. But darn it, we missed MAP Monday yesterday. That's the thing about ice days, they really mess up the lesson plans. Somehow, I'll muddle through.

So yesterday was quite relaxing. I discovered a new toy online: www.shelfari.com. As those who know me will realize, bibliophilia is in my blood. I luuuuuurve to read--to learn, to escape, to be entertained. So with this site I can keep track of all the books I've read and discuss with others. It's quite the accessory to our new book club. I had lots of fun yesterday adding books that I've read. It's been a long time for some of them, but I'm counting them anyway! I may be able to link that to this page, we'll see.

I also got all my valentines ready to mail and read quite a bit. Adam's on a quest to finish the new Stephen King book (it's hefty!) so he read almost all day. I also had a lovely nap. What a great day! I'm so happy he got a day off with me. Last year's ice storm was so dang boring, being cooped up by myself. I hardly even had the will to scrapbook. This is much better!!! Perhaps today I will be productive.

So who is this blog for? Well, I think it's mostly for me, but I am going to censor it ever so slightly enough that I can allow my real-life friends to read as well. Not so much a journal as a writing excercise based on daily events. Also there will be venting, I'm sure. But for those reasons, I wont' be doing any "about me" silliness. I hate that stuff anyway. As if I could truly define my life experience and personality in a paragraph or two. If you're reading this, you probably know me. I'll try to keep the identifying details to a minimum because I'm quite sure I'll be venting about school stuff. So let's put it this way...some names may be changed to protect the innocent.
